1. Select a Planting Location:
Sunny spot with well-drained, sandy loam soil.
Requires 6-8 hours of sunlight daily.
2. Prepare the Soil:
Slightly acidic soil (pH 5.8-6.2).
Loosen soil to 12 inches deep; mix in compost.
3. Planting:
After the last frost, when soil is above 65°F (18°C).
Sow 1-2 inches deep, 4-6 inches apart in rows 24-30 inches apart.
4. Watering:
Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Water at the base of plants.
5. Mulching:
Apply mulch to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate temperature.
6. Fertilizing:
Use balanced or low-nitrogen fertilizer.
Fertilize at planting and midway through the season.
7. Pest and Disease Management:
Monitor for pests like aphids and root-knot nematodes.
Ensure good drainage to prevent fungal diseases.
8. Supporting Plants:
Peanuts usually don’t need staking; allow space for vines to spread.
9. Harvesting:
Ready 120-150 days after planting, when leaves yellow and plant dies back.
Dig plants gently and remove peanuts from roots.
10. Curing and Storing:
Cure in a warm, dry, ventilated area for 2-3 weeks.
Store in airtight containers in a cool, dry place; freeze for long-term storage.
